A New Fitness Craze called Zumba

Zumba has become a fitness craze very quickly but most people are still confused as to what it is. We're all very familiar with Dance Aerobics, which includes traditional dance movements, such as box steps or even line movements. Zumba incorporates various choreographs from Latin dance, African beats, jazz, hip-hop and pop.

How Effective is Zumba?

A research by John Porcari, program director of the Clinical Exercise Physiology program at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, found that Zumba burns more calories than cardio classes like kickboxing, power yoga and step aerobics.

What is the difference between Aerobics and Zumba?

The difference is mainly on how they are taught. In Aerobics, you learn a move and then add on more moves to make a routine. In Zumba, the choreography is cued to a sentence or chorus of the song, so you learn the routine to the whole song as you go, which can be a bit more difficult for a beginner.
